The performance coating for performance parts

Whether the vehicle is an F1 racing car, a large commercial truck, or an essential military vehicle, high performance is a priority.

EXO is a multi-functional, nickel-boron coating that provides three vital performance advantages for automotive components: wear-resistance, hardness and lubricity.

An automotive part coated with EXO gains a surface that is as much as 40% harder than chrome, enabling the part to better withstand damage and wear. Moreover, the EXO coating also provides a permanently lubricious surface to the part. This serves to significantly reduce friction and heat, increasing the performance and longevity of components such as brake systems, drive trains, shocks, pumps, and gears.

From a manufacturing standpoint, EXO further benefits the automotive industry by increasing the durability of tool and dies, wear plates, and numerous other process-critical components.

Among the many applications in this field

Ring & Pinion Gears – A dynamometer chassis test using EXO-coated ring and pinion gears showed a 12% reduction in energy dissipation due to the coating’s low coefficient of friction and the lubricity of the mating surfaces. Gears ran cooler with less friction, increasing the amount of power transferred from axle to wheels, resulting in 10 to 14 additional horsepower.

Axle & Drive Plates – EXO is race-proven to eliminate wear, decrease friction and allow axle/drive plate assemblies to operate significantly cooler.

Brake Rotors and Caliper Systems – In real-world applications, EXO-coated braking systems have been shown to operate significantly cooler.

Transmissions – Coating all internal components, such as gears, input/output shafts and shift forks results in smoother operation and shifting. Fully coated transmissions realize up to 300% longer life and reduced parasitic horsepower loss due to friction by as much as 31%. (One customer realized a full 2% increase in fuel efficiency by coating only the thrust plates.)

Automotive Tooling, Die Cast and Plastic Injection Molds – The ability to reduce wear and lower friction enables EXO to replace Hex Chrome in many of these critical applications.
