UCT’s Opti-Max System has shown on a variety of different types of machines that it can generate more recovery (less sawing deviation that allows for lower target size), less unscheduled saw and guide pad changes for enhanced productivity and, in most cases, improved quality as measured by grade out.

Here are some quotes from satisfied customers using the Opti-Max System:

  • VSA Machine owner states he agrees our “recovery amount provided nearly $500,000 per year in benefits” – based on 50MM board feet of production.
  • “Very pleased to see the sawing deviation stay flat the entire shift.”
  • “Cuts so clean, it almost looks like it’s already been through the planer.”
  • “Size check alarms are very rare.”
  • “Board to board and in-board deviations have come down considerably.”
  • One sawmill got “1800 hours out of a coated guide pad” on a straight sawing single arbor machine; another got “3250 hours from one of its guide pads” and is pleased overall with the “new way of doing things.”
  • A hardwood mill in upstate Michigan installed our system and said, “Gang is running very well. No crashes and sizes are dead-on. Blades are still sharp after 500+ pieces; motor current is still around 250 amps with all saws in the cut. Going thru proper amounts of oil and water and it’s running like it’s supposed to. So far so good and I’m a happy camper!”
  • Many mills experienced the ability to “run saws an entire shift” where previously they were changing at mid-day on a scheduled basis and more often on an unscheduled basis.
