EXO Technology As Applied to SUPER THIN SAWS (STS)

UCT Forestry has used the properties of EXO coatings to further upgrade the product offerings of ultra-thin sawblades for the secondary wood market through Super Thin Saws (STS).

STS has long been an industry leader in providing high precision, thin-kerf saw blades for a diverse range of applications and industries, including: solid/engineered wood flooring; doors and windows, moulding, cabinets and furniture. Other application materials include MDF, plastic, foam materials, plywood, and engineered wood products.

These super-thin blades create less waste when cutting or ripping wood panels into smaller sections. In addition, they deliver extended body life, heat dissipation and lower friction. Because of these attributes, EXO coated STS blades operate with more thermal stability, less resin buildup, thinner plates and require less maintenance than conventional blades. Coated blades have improved mechanical integrity, so they experience less “snaking” caused by thermal expansion — helping operators avoid problems of cut quality and tear-out.

The 2008 International Woodworking Federation show in Atlanta awarded the Challengers Distinguished Achievement Award to the EXO-coated STS blade and featured this product in the U.S. Innovation and Demonstration Center as an example of a “green,” environmentally conscious product that produces more finished product from lesser raw materials. These saws also reduce waste and power consumption, and the design of these saws lends itself to more frequent re-tipping and hence ultimately to less tool steel consumption.
